BS News: "Cause Dowels The Collector's Edition DVD" To Be Released
I know I've been talking about this project forever, but The Cause Dowels DVD is finally happening. Right now, we're in the process of formatting the discs. The final DVD set is a whopping twelve discs, which caused Bram to note, "isn't that a bit excessive?" Sure, but then again we are Bone Sauce. Excessive is out middle name.

So what exactly is going to be on this set? Well let's take a closer look shall we.

Discs one through three are the movie series. They include:

The original 1992 Cause Dowels band documentary.
The 2010 drunken band commentary of Cause Dowels
The 1994 Cause Dowels parody: Sewn Boss.
Lots of unused scenes from the documentary.
Special Features, such as A Visit To Pat's and The Complete Jeff Darden Interviews.

Discs four through eight are the live series. They include:

Several live (on stage) performances of the band from 1990 to 1994.
A number of early recording sessions taped at the original Moondog Studios
Numerous practice sessions taped for the making of Cause Dowels.
A selection of songs performed live, never before released, such as Dinosaur Crap, Groove Is In The Heart, Grass Is Greener (Sludge Version) and more.

Discs nine and ten are the video series. They include:

The 1990 to 1992 Visual Music Video Collection: The original Bones Sauce video collection.
Every video made from 1992 to 1994, spanning You're So Bizarre to Happy Holidays.
Rare unreleased videos, including the infamous Fatty video.
Lots of unused scenes and raw footage from video shoots, including a "best-of" stunts reel from the Happy Holidays shoot.

Discs eleven and twelve are the reunion series. They include;

The long lost band documentary, Bone Sauce 1999: Live In Chicago, just recently completed.
Special Features, such as the complete rehearsal and live show from 1999.
Lots of unused scenes for the documentary.

So when does this DVD set drop? The official date is July 1st, with the release party scheduled for the weekend of July 30th in Chicago, Il. So check back, as I will posting some snippets from the set on the blog from now until the release.

bone sauce easter egg hunt!
ok. so it's not really an easter egg hunt, but it is an exclusive rough mix of a new track from our upcoming album. we were pretty happy with this tune and thought it was pretty close to the final version. but then we noticed a little problem near the end. can you identify what required some additional recording?

Cause Dowels | Rough DVD Covers Pt II
Just another design for the DVD cover taken from both the band doc and the Vacuum video. I thought this capture was very apropos.

Cause Dowels DVD | Rough Covers
Started working on some rough designs for the Cause Dowels DVD sleeves. I decided the cover will use images captured from band film and videos. This first series of captures are from the music video from Fard. Great video soon to be on DVD with unused footage and raw footage. I'll be posting more sleeves over the next few weeks. If you see something you like, leave a comment.

DVD Web Exclusive -- 1991 PSU Talent Show Pt. II
I am finally starting to edit the footage I have been digitizing for the 15th Anniversary Edition of Cause Dowels. The first video I started on is the PSU Talent Show from 1991. I'm not sure why, but we video taped the whole show. You may remember when I posted on this topic a few months ago that we were not the winning act of this talent show. However, we were also not the only act to lose out the to fab rap stylings of State The Facts.

See previous posting to understand what I am talking about.

State The Facts

In fact, several other bands and acts also lost out this powerhouse. Who were they? Well take a look for yourself.

The first act was a band that you would find playing a college bar or frat house playing covers to drunks. (I'm not saying that is a bad thing. We've all been there.) What impresses me most about this act is:

a) They thought it was a good idea to cover the Ugly Kid Joe hit Everything About You. If you do not remember Ugly Kid Joe, consider yourself lucky. In fact, not only did they think it was a good idea to cover Ugly Kid Joe, they also thought it was a good idea to close with Ugly Kid Joe. As the lead singer makes clear to the audience at the start of the song, "We're gonna leave you now with a little Ugly Kid Joe!" Of course, the audience responds with great applause. This was what we were up against that year: audiences who loved Ugly Kid Joe.

b) You must watch (or skip to) the end where the lead singer jumps into the audience and tries to start a mosh pit, which turns into what I would describe as weird dancing (fighting) with one dude, who apparently is also an Ugly Kid Joe fan.

The second act was a sorority group who put on what can best be described as a skit / lip-sync routine to the horribly wrong song I'm Too Sexy.

The final act (and I should note there were more, but some acts have since been taped over at points) was another cover band, although this time they selected songs that would stand the test of time better than Ugly Kid Joe. For the Web Exclusive I have selected them doing Drain You by Nirvana, a song the audience could care less about. An interesting side note, at the start of the video you'll see the lead guitarist break a string and the singer asks if any of the other two rock acts wouldn't mind lending a guitar for them so they could finish their set. Being the good guys that we were, we stepped up and loaned them a backup guitar.
